My American Heart formed in November 2001 under the name No Way Out, when they looked like this:

The band was, from left to right: Clint Delgado (guitar), Larry Soliman (vocals), Steven Oira (drums), Jeremy Mendez (guitar), and Jesse Barerra (bass). The band members had been friends, and they started out performing covers of bands like Rufio and New Found Glory. Eventually they began to write their own material, and they released two EPs as No Way Out: The Courtesy of Stars in 2002 and Certainty Kills in 2003. The band's first show was a battle of the bands, which they won, and from then on they established themselves within the San Diego scene.

Eventually the band decided to change their name because of legal issues, and because they felt that it was no longer fitting with who they were as a band:
"No Way Out was just a really pop punk high school band name. We all agreed we wanted to change our name. So we took My American Heart. We thought it fit us well." -Larry
My American Heart recorded their self-titled EP with 3 re-recorded songs and 5 new ones. They initially planned to write a full-length album, but were happy with the 8 songs that they recorded. The album was released on May 29th 2004. That night My American Heart played a sold out CD release show at the Epicenter.

By July, the CD was available in select independent record stores nationwide, and it was also a top seller on smartpunk.com. My American Heart toured throughout the summer in support of the album.
By the end of 2004, My American Heart was beginning to write material for their first full-length album. But before that would happen, My American Heart would go through many line-up changes. Original guitarist Clint Delgado left the band to pursue his education. In January 2005, his replacement Brian followed suit.
Despite being a member short, lots of good things were happening for the band. They played their first large-scale tour opening for The Used and My Chemical Romance on the 2005 Taste of Chaos Tour, playing on the acoustic stage. They enjoyed the tour, but were glad to get back to their normal touring:
"Man, I can't wait to tour some clubs again and rock the way we're supposed to; electric." -Jesse

My American Heart signed to Taste Of Chaos and Warped Tour organizer Kevin Lyman's new label Warcon Records. Though the band had held out on signing until they found the right label, they were very happy to be signed to Warcon:
"We're going to start recording our full length May 8 with Sal Villenueva who we are soooooo lucky to work with. We couldn't have done this without the help of a label." -Jeremy
After recording the album, the band got another opportunity that they wouldn't have had without a label, the chance to shoot a video with director Shane Drake. The song The Process and its video exposed fans to the some of the major themes of the upcoming album. Beyond being a catchy song and a visually interesting video, the band was proud of its deeper meaning:
"We want people to feel like they can be anything they want. They don't have to live a certain lifestyle to listen to certain music. I mean I listen to hip-hop and I look like the most flamboyant gayest kid you'll ever meet. You're not limited. I just want people to feel like they can keep it real and people can accept them. The song "The Process" pretty much sums all that up. We picked that song as our single to debut the album, because that song is pretty much the message we want to get out there." -Larry

The band spent the summer on the Vans Warped Tour, playing the Ernie Ball Stage. Jesse switched to playing guitar, and the band began Warped Tour with their friend Keith playing bass temporarily. During the tour, they picked up permanent bassist Dustin Hook, formerly of the Pittsburg band Transition.
The Meaning In Makeup was released on September 13, 2005. Since then, My American Heart has been touring non-stop, and they are now beginning to write songs for their next album. In May, they got the opportunity to open for a New Found Glory show.
"We are super excited! Its super interesting cause since we first started playing together, NFG has really made their mark on our band. We would sit in Stevens garage and play NFG covers all day". -Larry
The band has certainly come a long way from then, and the history is still being written.
Currently, My American Heart is playing on Warped Tour for the second year in row. Jeremy Mendez left the band in May, and their friend Rick is filling in for him on Warped Tour.
